A free 303 VST.
A different kind of story.
Looking for the best free 303 VST to cover? Meet CreakBox V2.1 “Just Bass”: a TB-303-inspired VST3 bass synthesizer for Windows, built by Frank Reitz under the reitzwerk name.
Find official screenshots, video demonstrations, accurate product facts and independent coverage here. Everything in one place for journalists, reviewers and creators.
From 2003.
To Just Bass.
CreakBox began as Frank Reitz’s experiment in understanding the TB-303: its oscillator, filter, envelope, Slide, Accent and the subtle interaction between them. Bioroid brought the original project into the VST world in 2003.
In 2026, reitzwerk introduced a ground-up rebuild, CreakBox V2. The current V2.1 “Just Bass” takes a bass-focused direction: four distinct sound models, expressive sequencing, IDEA pattern development, distortion, tape echo and reverb. It is not a skin, port or code update of the 2003 plug-in.
The free FLT1 voice can be automated and exported in a DAW at 1× quality. All four voices can be explored manually; a registered license extends automation, rendering, higher oversampling and Circuit Bend access.

CreakBox V2.1 in brief
CreakBox V2.1 “Just Bass” by reitzwerk is a TB-303-inspired VST3 bass synthesizer for Windows. Its free FLT1 voice supports sequencing, DAW automation and audio export. Four sound models, Slide, Accent, the IDEA workflow and analogue-inspired effects offer different approaches to acid bass sound design.
Beyond a conventional 303 emulator
Originally introduced as CreakBox in 2003, the instrument returned in 2026 as a ground-up rebuild by creator Frank Reitz under the reitzwerk name. CreakBox V2.1 “Just Bass” is a 64-bit VST3 acid bass synthesizer for Windows 10 and 11, inspired by the expressive behaviour of the classic TB-303 rather than claiming to reproduce it exactly. Its four sound models take different approaches to filtering, resonance and modulation. A 16-step sequencer provides per-step notes, Gate, Slide, Accent and Attack, while the IDEA workflow helps producers generate and develop related bass patterns. Distortion models, tape processing, tape echo and reverb expand the sound. The free edition lets users produce and export with FLT1; a registered license enables the additional voices in automated and offline-rendered projects, higher quality settings and deeper Circuit Bend editing.
